Waiting on the Lord in my quite time this morning, I saw I’d opened my Bible at Psalm 23. Now this is a well-known and oft-quoted Psalm and I wondered what the Lord was saying to me. Then I realised that in the last few days, I’d lost sight of the fact that God is my Shepherd, my Leader, and my Guide. He is in charge and not only does He protect me and keep me safe from harm, He also wants me to have and have in abundance. He tells me in John 10:10&11:“The thief’s purpose is to steal and to kill and to destroy. My purpose is to give life and life in abundance. I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd lays down His life for His sheep." When I hear Psalm 23 quoted, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want” (Verse 1), the Sunday school picture of Jesus holding a little lamb comes to mind. There is nothing wrong with this; but I have to remind myself that the Lord is MY Shepherd. that He is holding ME (and you, and you, and you) in His protective arms.
“He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams.” (Ps 23:2) I realised that I need to rest in the Lord and trust Him to take care of me. Isaiah 43:1 reiterates this: “But now, the Lord who created you says: ‘Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you, I have called you by your name; you are mine!’ “ WOW!
To imprint this on my mind, I have highlighted the above verse (Isaiah 43:1) in my Bible and written these words alongside it:
“No harm will befall me. I belong to God.”
AMEN!
