A few weeks ago I managed a few photos of the wild camels in and around my husband's workshop on the edge of the desert. One by one, they all lay down and had a dust bath. The white camel in the above photograph had already rolled around in the sand when the next camels followed suit. Here it looks as though she's holding her breath until the dust subsides...
Note: Camels have dust baths as seen above to rid themselves of fleas and as a form of cleaning themselves.
The Arabic word for dust is gubar

Interesting, Jo.... I know almost NOTHING about camels so I found this very interesting... Do they roll around for a reason??? Is that how they 'clean' themselves? Love seeing the one 'holding his breath'... ha ha

How delightful! She really does look as if she's holding her breath!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a white camel. Yes, even I think she holding her breath.
ReplyDeleteHow amazing. Looks like the other one enjoying the bath.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture Jo.
Very interesting to know how animals vary in their habit of cleaning themselves. Your topic will align with mine as I also featured about
ReplyDeleteAlpacas.
Wish you a pleasant day.
Interesting info about camels. I haven't seen a white one before. I like camels, even if they do have bad breath.
ReplyDeleteCheers.

LOL!! That is a look at disgust on her face Jo. :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing photo, Jo !
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. Your explanation was very helpful. I enjoyed looking at your world. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAt my house I call the gubar velvet.
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to see camels, not a usual animal for around here. Yet I suppose that water is scarce enough that dust would have to do for a bath. And seems there is plenty of that.
What fun I read on your blog about the world cup footbal. At the moment all everybody in our country Holland is talking about is football. Yesterday afternoon our team played against Denmark and won, so of course we are all excited. When you see the games again, all the Dutch are in orange clothes or hats or whatever.Hard to mis. LOL. They play again on Saturday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day
I love camels ! each time I have the occasion I take a ride ! Last time was into the Sahara to watch a sunset ! My camel's name was Michael Jackson !
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to be able to watch wild camels. The white one does look like she's patiently waiting for the dust to settle. Great picture, Jo!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful and delightful capture, Jo! Never seen a white camel either! And I think she's holding her breath, too! Hope you have a great week!
