Initially Shadow sat quietly on my lap and looked out of the window. Then he began to yowl and tried to clamber onto the floor. He doesn't like being in a car anymore!
Last week Grant suggested we take Shadow out in the car like we used to do when living in Khartoum. Bad idea. No sooner had we driven down the street, than Shadow began to yowl and claw me. He tried to clamber across the cab and onto the floor. We realised that Shadow is just like any other cat now that he has "grown up": he doesn't like travelling in a car anymore!

What a kitty!!!! My dog hated going in the car since most of the time, she knew that we were taking her to the vet to get her shots and check-ups... ha
ReplyDeleteCute post, Jo.
Hugs,

Aw, and here I thought he'd be different having been accustomed to riding as a kitten :-)
ReplyDeleteMaybe he thinks he's going to end up in an airplane after the car ride.
ReplyDeletePoor Shadow - and poor you, getting clawed.
I had one cat who was ornery about absolutely everything except riding in the car. She liked to travel, but she didn't like much else.
Hugs to Shadow.

An Unfittie's Guide to Adventurous Travel
I've owned traveling cats. But I think they have to do ride a lot. Nice try.
ReplyDeleteOur German Shepherds LOVE travelling. In fact Bonny is so attached to "her" bakkie that she sleeps in it at night! Heathcliff, on the other hand, was very anxious to begin with, but has grown to absolutely love his outings now.
ReplyDeleteShadow looked so pert sitting up front with you in this picture - what a lovely cat!
Is he safe outside by himself now? The car might remind him of his air trip to SA.
ReplyDeleteits only us dogs who love the drives!!

Hi Jo!
ReplyDeleteOh no... poor Shadow and poor you!! You know, other than Edward I've had two other cats ... one loved to travel in the car. She would sit below the back window and stay there for hours! The other a Siamese, sat on our lap purring for the 4 hour drive from the village where we rescued her to our home. And we thought, "Great we have a cat who likes travelling!" Not! That was the first and last time! She would start to hyperventilate if we even came near a car with her. So with Edward, we are just hoping for something in the middle - a cat that will travel even half as well as the first one will be great!
By the way, your Shadow is gorgeous!!
Blessings!
Ann
Unless they do it often, I am sure they would be scar]\5...that was supposed to be scared but Ki decided to walk on the keyboard. I guess she was telling your kitty it is fun to ride in the car.
ReplyDeleteOh, how funny!! I always hated riding in Dad's car and he would have to pick me up and put me inside. But Sam LOVES going anywhere in any car!! I've gotten to like it a little more now, but I'd rather that Dad and I just stay home and go for walks from there!!!

The very first cat I had and who lived with me for 20 years loved to drive in the car. She came with me EVERYWHERE ! I did shopping with her I walked in the park with her, I even took her with me to friends. She sat on my shoulder but of course she had a harness. She even did a roundtrip with me through Italy !! and stayed with me at the beach (in the 60th). But she was an exception. All other cats I had after her, never were like her. Nobody likes driving in the car. They all sing operas as soon as I start the motor !
ReplyDeleteMy cat use to hate it too...Love the photo!!
