I've had herbs in pots on the verander and also individually planted in my flower beds: Parsley, basil, coriander, mint and chillies. Last week Stanley and I potted a few into smaller containers and I have them in my kitchen window. Yesterday morning as the sun rose behind the herbs, I grabbed my camera and took a few photos.
The sunrise as seen through my kitchen window this week
The sunrise as seen from my desk
Although it's the beginning of autumn/fall here in our part of the world, there is hardly any difference in the weather. The sun rises at approximately the same time every morning because we're so close the the Equator. (We are +- 60km's northwest of this Line). The rain will ease off, the deciduous trees are already shedding their leaves and the perennials in my garden will die down. The swallows, sunbirds, storks, fish- eagles, weavers, flycatchers, robin-chats, bulbuls, doves and many more are building nests in the valley as I type. This must be the most beautiful place I have ever lived.

Beautiful sunrise picture, Jo.. We are heading into autumn also --but it's still hot here. However, a front is coming through Sunday or Monday --and then hopefully it will be cooler and more like Fall.

I remember days like that, when we were in Quito, Ecuador. It is on the Equator, too, so the weather is pretty much the same year 'round, except for more rain in the "wet season".
ReplyDeleteI have never successfully grown herbs. I used to have chives in the yard, but they died. I just don't have a green thumb.
So nice for you to have them in your kitchen, though.

I love how the sun and moon are a constant for all of us.
ReplyDeleteWonderful view ! I love it!Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful, Jo! You have discovered paradise!
ReplyDeleteNice to be able to grow so much outside and no frost to worry about. Nice view through your window. the last of our Housemartins and Swallows will be leaving their nests under our eaves to fly to your part of the world shortly, a lot have left already, but some still have fledglings to feed. When they fly away the Sparrows will move into to their winter rentals!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds so lovely there. I miss it :-( I guess you must be one your way very soon. I'll wish you a safe and pleasant journey once again my friend.
ReplyDeleteAren't you lucky that your husband's work has brought you into this little piece of paradise? How nice to have your herbs in their own little grass house sitting on the louvres with delightful tree reflections as well.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me happy knowing you are in such a lovely spot with house and garden help and can enjoy the marvellous life around you. A beautiful sunrise indeed.
So beautiful... I want to visit!!

Marvelous post/captures as always, Jo! We, too, are approaching fall, but we didn't even have a mild summer until about ten days ago! Has been one of those strange years weather-wise, but still better than what most of the country has had this year so I won't complain any further. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy!

That is indeed a beautiful place! How odd it must be to have so little change in the seasons throughout the year. Though, now that I think of it, southern California, where I grew up, really only had 2 seasons--hot & dry and then cool and somewhat wet (semi-arid). Here in northern California, we have 4 definite seasons.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have all those herbs both outdoors and indoors! You have a stunning view from all your windows.
ReplyDeleteI like your wonderful kitchen view and your potted herbs :-)
