"Let the children...

come to me,"  said Jesus, "and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these" (Matthew 19:4)

A few days ago I visited the hospital for treatment for a spasm in my back. I had to report to the ward sister in the women's section. When I arrived, I saw the little ones (pictured below) lying in traction. My friend, Amanda had told me about these children (who all have cracked/broken pelvises) and that they are to remain like this for four weeks. She'd seen them on a previous visit and dashed home afterwards to make dolls and cars. Until then, the children just lay there staring into space.

As I had to visit the hospital a second time, I took along some bananas for the children.

The little visitor had come to the clinic with HIS mother and took the opportunity to visit his friend lying in traction in the women's ward. They're enjoying a shared banana together!

Very interested in this Mzungu Bibi/Foreigner Grandmother!

The come from villages far away and some of them have not seen a Mzungu before. Their mothers are also at the hospital and sit in the sun outside the ward  talking to the other mothers. Periodically they come inside to see to the children.

When I asked the ward sister how these children sustained their injuries, she said they fall off pushcarts and out of trees.

The little girl in the far bed, apparently screamed blue murder when saw Amanda the first time. After Amanda had brought her a doll, she now LOVES Mzungus!

The little patient in the nearside bed proudly holds up her doll for me to see

I hope you're all having a wonderful day.

  1. Oh how heart wrenching to see so many children with broken pelvises. I'm glad that they are able to get medical help and attention though as otherwise it would be so much harder for them.

God bless your friend Amanda who shows the children so much love and concern. I love how the little girl even has a doll she can actually relate to. Bless you dear Jo and I hope your back gets better real soon also. Hugs. xx

  2. A heartbreaking and heartwarming post, Jo. The doll is wonderful, and I'm so glad the little ones have more to do than stare at the ceiling.
    Lots of love and prayers,

  5. Oh, how awful for those little ones to just have to lie there in traction for 4 weeks. You and Amanda are so tender-hearted, Jo. I hope all the kids' fractures will heal well.
