I took these photos in 2001. They're of the expat and ambassadorial area of Bamako, capital of Mali.
A very young Grant walking up the street past one of our company Guest Houses
A different view of the street with another company Guest House on the left
A close-up of the fence surrounding this Guest House
We were on our way to have lunch at the Mande Hotel, on the banks of the Niger River. On the corner was another securely fenced property with a beautiful boundary protecting it.
We'd heard that deep within the center of this property, was the broadcasting company of Mali
As I passed, I noticed a bust near the fence. I snapped it. Although I never found out who the person was, I surmised it was a pop-icon of the time
