Saturday Critters with Eileen

Two weeks ago I posted here about the strange behavior of a Lilac-Breasted Roller while a Red-eyed Dove was building its nest.

This week I noticed the same roller on a tree in my garden . It had a mate, but if I tried to photograph them, they'd both fly off squawking loudly!

Today I managed to snap the pair as they sat on the same branch. It's only when I downloaded the photos, that I noticed the grasshopper in one of the birds' bills. It was going to feed young and their nest has to be in our garden!

One of the rollers landed on the branch with a grasshopper in its bill!

Rollers make nests in holes in trees but these two seem to be flying in under the cottage eaves. I've tried to see if there's an opening there, but not seen anything yet. Meanwhile, I don't want to disturb these two dedicated parents...

I'm linking to Saturday Critters with Eileen here

Here's wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
