Black-shouldered Kite

Driving back from the city this week, Grant stopped below a tree next to the road. Whenever we pass here, there is a Black-Shouldered Kite sitting on a high branch.

Black-shouldered Kite

This raptor is a distinctive smallish grey ad white bird, with black shoulder patches and bright red eyes. When we birded in Mwadui, Tanzania, (East Africa) we saw one specific bird, almost always in the same place. Here in the Eastern Free State, South Africa , these beautiful kites are plentiful, although also always only seen in solitary states. They are found all over South Africa.
