Speckled Mousebird

A common garden bird in the Free State is the Speckled Mousebird.

Overall appearance, black face with black and white bill. It's a very common resident and locally nomadic in search of fruit. They also eat leaves, buds, flowers and nectar.

Their call is highly vocal, with the most frequent call a sharp chee chee chee. The alarm call is zik zik.

I'm linking to Wild Bird Wednesday here

Happy Wednesday to you all!

  1. Hello Jo, The Speckled Mousebird is handsome. I love the crest on its head. It does have a weird name, great shots. Enjoy your day!
