On Monday morning I was up at 3.30 to check on the eclipse of the moon. When I saw that it had already eclipsed quite a bit, I dashed to my office, grabbed my camera and spent the next hour-and-a-half snapping the moon!

The moon does not have its own light, but shines because its surface reflects the sun's rays.
Eclipses of the moon happen when the sun, earth and moon are aligned to form an almost or exact straight line. The technical term for this is syzygy, which comes from the Greek word for being paired together.
I wonder what my Mum is looking at? It's three in the morning!

ReplyDeleteHi Sweet Jo, So glad you got to see the eclipse. We were so disappointed here since it was too cloudy.... George even had his tripod out and ready!!! We went outside about 6 times --and saw NOTHING.... Guess we'll have to wait til 2033 --when we will ONLY be 91.... ha ha

Great photos! I looked at the eclipse also, but it was behind the mountains in the early stages. I first saw it when it was already mostly eclipsed. The good news was, the timing was better here. The eclipse was over by 10, so I didn't even have to stay up late.
ReplyDeleteThese are great pics of the eclipse. I was just way to tired to get up that early to watch it. Life and work has been hectic so just trying to keep up most days.
