Red-billed Queleas, Cool Cows and Cute Calves

Good morning dear Blogger friends. The days are mild although we start the mornings with minus degrees. As always, when I have finished at the farm office, the first thing I do at home is change into my old walking shoes As I place my camera around my neck, it causes great excitement in Skabby: a  challenge to leash him up; finally we head off onto the farm road for our daily walk.

Even as I type this post, I hear a loud bird chorus (posted below) in the garden.

Red-billed Quelea

At the dam yesterday, Skabby was a bit reluctant to jump into the dam. There were several cows in "his space". He did eventually go in.

I zoomed in on a cow drinking...

And I zoomed out to the cow throwing a great reflection
On the opposite bank another cow was drinking
And I zoomed IN on her!

Recently a cow calved and I was fascinated how EXACTLY like Momma the calf was

These calves are separated from their moms but the smaller one (featured with Momma above) waits at the farm entrance ...

...for when Mom returns to be milked and the calf manages a sneak drink....

I'm linking to Saturday Critters with Eileen here

HAPPY WEEKEND TO YOU ALL!

  6. Hello :=)

    Such lovely farm animals. I also have cows on my farm. They are mild creatures, and their calves are cute. Great selection of photos including the Red billed Queleia birds which is a new bird for me.
