Good morning, dear Blogger friends. I'm not sure whether I've had occasion to share a passion of mine, but here it is:
I am a British Royalist to the core.
My late mother was.
My lovely sister, Rose in Spain (who is British citizen and lived 12 years in the UK), is.
And my dear neighbor, landlady, employer, Weigh-Less member and friend, Ronnie is a British royalist.
So is my other neighbor (the younger farmer's wife) Janine, who is headmistress of the Primary School.
This was extra handy as, in South Africa we experience regular power blackouts and Monday morning, 19 September 2022, the day of THE funeral, we had nine hours of loadshedding. (Read: no electricity)
Extra handy because the farmer turned on the generator, which is very expensive to run, to tape the proceedings for his wife who was at work.
Shortly after 11, Ron sent Joyce to call me to come and watch the proceedings on the TV. I went over at about midday and the gun carriage was close to Westminster Abbey.
While watching, Ron and I gave a running commentary on the Royals, the members of the Queens household, her personal Cavalry. John, who was also watching said: wow you ladies know your Royals!
I eventually came home at 4.30pm. And watched the long, slow procession through the city to Windsor Castle where the Queen's committal would take place.
The power went off at 5pm. I continued to watch the private and very poignant church service on my laptop via my wireless router.
REST IN PEACE, YOUR MAJESTY
I am not a royalist and would be happy if my country became a republic. That said, I have enormous respect for Queen Elizabeth II who did a very hard job, very well for a very long time. I too hope that she can now rest.

ReplyDeleteI did two post about watching the funeral. I watched all 7 plus hours of it, live.. 4 times my eyes filled with tears, it was an awe inspiring funeral. the dogs and the horses were two fo tear causes. and the young men carrying the coffin up the steps was another and the first song The Day thou Lord Has Ended.

ReplyDeleteI just was spending a week at the English coast because I needed a quite place and the sea. I was not feeling well and while I was there she died. I watched the BBC where they announced the whole afternoon that she wasn't well and then at 6 that she had died. I was happy not to be in London during the funeral when I returned to Belgium, it's already a mess because of the Brexit. I watched the funerals the whole day, was interesting to see. I took pictures of the screen as you did. I wonder what will happen now, she kept the Commonwealth together, now I think it will fall apart.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo! I too am a staunch Royalist having been born and raised in England. I was 'chained' to the TV here in the US watching everything for days, proud of the astonishing pageantry and outpouring of love for our wonderful Queen. May she rest in peace . Long live King Charles III.
