While in Nairobi last month, Grant bought me new shoes - running shoes. I'd had my old New Balance about five years and my little toes were peeping through the webbing.

These shoes made me think of the Scripture Ephesians 6 v 10-18 where we are encouraged to put on the full armour of God. The belt of truth, the shoes of peace, the shield of peace, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit will help us to stand firm and resist the enemy of evil. I think that one of the hard ones to follow is the shoes of peace. How many times could we have promoted peace and we didn't? When a collegue slags off the boss and you agree; when someone in company critisizes another person in their absence and you add your bit about why you don't like that person too. Let us put on the Shoes of Peace and be a diplomat. If you need to stop someone from belittling another person, do it diplomatically. Remember the person doing the critisizing obviously lacks peace in their hearts. At all times, let us promote peace and make the world a better place.
Oooh, I LOVE your new shoes!!

ReplyDeleteHi There, So glad to get home and back to blogging. We did have a fabulous trip--but home is pretty nice also!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour shoes reminded me of my new tennis shoes I got before our big trip.... I wore them EVERY single day ---and was wishing for another pair --just to have a change every once in awhile... Needless to say, they are NOT new anymore. ha
Hugs,
Betsy
Way to go, Jo. I'm all for promoting peace. Let's do it!
ReplyDeleteLuv, K
Good council. Like your new shoes, which look like your old shoes without the holes. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou got your money's worth on the old ones. Enjoy the new ones. The blessing we say in Hebrew to one who gets something new is Titchadesh (m.) or titchadshi (f.). Sort of like, May you be renewed [with your new thing].
ReplyDeleteI remembered the helmet of salvation but had forgotten there were shoes of peace. Thanks for the reminder. Nice connection.
Here is another one for you, from Isaiah:
"How beautiful on the mountains are the FEET of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation . . ."
I am blessed by having experienced the best example in life, the Prof's aunt Rose, who never said a censuring word about anyone. Her motto was, 'if you cannot say anything good, don't say anything at all.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new shoes, I too am in dire need of a pair. The only shoes that I can comfortably walk in are loosing their soles (souls?) It becomes unpleasant to walk when your feet constantly ache.
Hi Jo! So glad you got the new running shoes. And I pray that everywhere you wear them that God grants you favor with Him and with the people whose hearts so desparately need His peace.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the very nice remarks on my blog. If you should ever come to Tennessee, please let me know in advance. It would be a pleasure to meet you. I don't expect to come back to Kenya again, but then, there is that possibility. I was invited last year on short notice to come out there and teach during an annual 10day intensive for pastors at our school in Eldoret. Now the administration has changed - so don't know.
Oh so true Jo!
ReplyDeleteAnd, you just got the Old Balances broke IN!!Hahahaaaa
