Distance and Gran's heartache

Thanks to all who commented on my Wordless Wednesday post yesterday.  The little boy on the wardrobe in that picture (Joel) is our fourth grandchild, brother to seven-month-old Abby. Joel is the oldest child of our younger son, Angus and daughter-in-law, Amanda.

At the moment  both Joel and Abby are in hospital in Bloemfontein. They both have bronchial pneumonia; on Wednesday morning, Abby seems to have rallied and is on the mend,

He had a restless night, the effects of which were visible in those droopy eyes the next morning

but poor little Joel still has a raging fever and not at all well. Antibiotics  are being administered through a drip which is inserted into his hand. Poor little mite. Angus and Amanda spent the last two nights sleeping sitting up on Lazy Boys in the private ward. Amanda's parents and sister join them throughout the day to offer up prayers and provide a support for all.

Of course, Grant and I are worried about the little ones, but living so far away, all we can do (and are doing) is to lift the children up to the Lord for complete healing. 

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.  

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. 
 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate. Psalm 127 3-5

  1. Oh, Jo, it is so sad to see little Joel looking like that. I'm glad Abby rallied so well, but I'll be praying for both of them, and for Angus and Amanda.
    I know how it is to be far away and unable to do anything. I've had a chest infection for more than a month, and shortly after I got it, my niece's husband was rushed from our hometown in the suburbs to Vancouver General Hospital, with leukemia. He was expected to be home yesterday, but he had a fever and his blood pressure was low. My niece has to explain these things to their daughter, who is 5, and it isn't easy. I wish I could be there to help but, of course, with an infection, I am ordered to stay in Alberta until I'm completely healthy.

  2. Oh dear Jo! My thoughts and prayers are with these little ones. I'm so glad Abbey has rallied and I pray Joel will rally soon. I too just learned of a little boy relative of 9 years, Koby, who has been admitted to hospital by air ambulance. They don't know what is wrong with him but he has been suffering for some time. I know that God cares for these little ones and we do well by praying for them. Blessings and hugs, xx

  5. I love your blog Jo, mainly because you seem to be such a nice person, and the sense of location given by your words and photos is so powerful. This now is a worrying time for you and your family, and I just wanted to wish you all the best. I'm sure you'll keep us posted.
