Critter curiosity on the veranda

Last week I saw my first toad of the season. It hopped up the steps between my and Colette's lush gardens on either side of the main veranda entrance. As I brought my camera out, Lipsy, the veranda cat, was nudging the critter. Colette scooped her up and held her a little way in front of the toad. We were fascinated that it ducked its head when Lipsy tried to touch it, albeit, gently.
This pretty lad lives in our garden below the veranda rails
Colette lifts Lipsy to meet the toad

The toad ducked its head as Lipsy leaned forward to see what it was !

Gingerly putting her paw out towards the critter...

 ... and touching it gently

Colette then assisted the toad to her garden where he continues as part of the our little veranda community

I'm linking to Saturday Critters here

  3. That's so cute the way the cat gently touched the toad. I'm surprised that the toad actually stayed in place rather than hop to safety. I am also amazed at how huge the toad is. It must eat very well in the garden.

  4. he is absolutely beautiful. I love frogs and toads and this is a fine specimen. so is the cat, what beautiful paws... your toads are bigger than ours.. we have tiny toads in our back yard, they can sit on a fingernail with no problem

  7. We had one in our garden the other day, not often we see them here.

I am trying slowly to catch up after my hard drive crashed out completely, will be sometime before I am back to where I was.

Have a good week. Cheers Diane
