Long-crested Eagle

Yesterday we drove to Ladybrand for business. I always have my camera to hand and take photos of everything and anything. Along the way, we spotted a large black bird atop a telephone pole. Grant stopped and I took photos. I'm sorry the wires are slightly in the way, but I think there are a few good images of this beautiful raptor.
Long-crested Eagle

The Long-crested Eagle is a medium-sized eagle. Its dark plumage and long crest is very distinctive.
Even though I wasn't able to duck the camera focus in between the lines, the bright yellow eyes and gape were easily visible
This eagle is a fairly common resident; largely sedentary
It eats mainly rodents and frequently hunts from telephone poles

I'm linking to Wild Bird Wednesday here

Here's wishing you all a wonderful Wednesday!

  9. What a great looking bird - wires or not. As I may have said before, I just don't seem to get many pictures of birds of prey. Must try harder.
