Antiquated Airconditioning in Africa

The airconditioning unit mounted just outside the lounge of my husband's flat in Khartoum
Maintenance technicians replace the old material in the airconditioner with fresh
The fibrous material is actually straw
New straw, cold air!

(Below is an email from my husband explaining the antiquated but very effective airconditioning system in his flat in Khartoum)

"I’ve just had the air conditioners serviced at my flat; it’s the strangest things you've ever seen. They have squares of straw in them and a pump that pours water over the straw. Behind the straw is a fan that blows air through the straw into the room. Very effective..."

  1. LOL Jo & if the airconditioners are like that, one can only imagine about things like car engines, fridges, generators etc - only in Africa !!

  2. Yes, only in Africa... Hugs

  3. Do these have the exact same components like Split System here in our place? and perform the exact same tasks? -

  4. Extreme conditions such as heat and humidity can impact on our overall physical intellectual activity, making even the simplest of tasks an absolute chore. Having a proper air conditioning system in place helps reduce heat and humidity, thus reducing the impact on our ability to perform and complete work tasks.
