Last weekend before our leave

On Saturday Grant collected me at home for a ride through the mine. We spotted quite a few birds, a lizard or two and some beautiful skies and clouds. We stopped on the outskirts of town so that I could take a photo of the area where [I imagined] our house is!
Well, not exactly where the arrow is pointing; we live about two rows of houses back in the middle of town

A little further along on our drive, Grant stopped the car to speak on the phone. I took a photo of the road ahead.

The road through the bush beyond Mwadui

Further along, Grant stopped again and I decided not to be lazy but to get out and take a photo without the buddy whip in the foreground!

We spotted quite a number of birds, ducks and even watched as a Black Kite swooped down on an unseen prey on the dam's edge.

Agama lizard sunning itself on a warm rock near the road. Agama lizards are one of various small, long-tailed, colorful (the males) lizards found in Tanzania
No trip around the mine is complete for Grant unless he stops off at the overlook to the mine pit

I hope you're all having a wonderful week.

  1. Great pictures,Jo, of the mine area.... How much longer do you all expect to be in East Africa?

I know you will enjoy your 'leave' ---and getting to go home and be with family. God Bless you, Jo and Grant.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  2. Is it turning fall there with those colored leaves? That lizard must be a patriotic American in red, white and blue.

  3. Dear Jo, I didn't now you lived in the town. In the photos it all looks like the country, except when you get to Shinyaga. Are you living right in the middle of Mwadui? How big is it? I'm sure you'll do a post of this later. Have a wonderful and productive week. Hugs. xx

  4. Thanks for showing us around the area. Excuse my ignorance but what are they mining? Diamonds? Have a great time on leave. It doesn't seem long ago when you were in England. Where to this time? Home to the family for Christmas?

  6. Nice for you to get a trip around the area before you go on leave. The little lizard (I assume it is little) is very cute.
I always have to remind myself that when you say "the mine" you mean the whole area around it. I tend to think of "the mine" as just the last photo.
Have a wonderful time. Hug the cats before you go, and the dogs when you get home.
We are away from our Lindy for a couple of weeks, on a cruise of the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers in Europe.
    Wishing you all the best,
    Luv, K

  7. HI Jo, thanks for sharing the scenes around your place. The lizard is cool. Looks like a nice area for the birds. The mine photo reminds of a rock quarry not far from where I live. Have a fun and safe trip!

  8. Oh what joy must be in your hearts as you prepare for (or are already there) being with your family after long absence. I loved being in Africa - but greatly missed my children, their children and their children's children. What a beauty that Bethany is! Blessings to you and Grant for the holidays. Travel safely!

  10. Love the lizard. Thanks for the virtual tour of your "neighborhood," Jo. The over look of the mining operation is fascinating!
