    Good morning dear Blogger friends; as mentioned in my Monday post, I have been rather busy with my different jobs / side hustles. Not least, The Bunker holiday accommodation.  Last week while waiting for guests who were checking out to open the gate for me, I took this photo below.

Psychedelic kettle

 Good morning dear Blogger friends. For those who grew up in the 60's the term psychedelic will be reminiscent of flower power, hippies etc. I grew up in a very conservative home and society but I KNEW about these things. In fact, I remember writing an essay in my language class, describing the hippie scene so realistically which caused my equally conservative teacher's plucked eyebrows to rise into her hairline. Nevertheless, I received an  A+ for my work. 

However, this post is about my new kettle, some 54 years later.

  What happened was that the kettle at The Bunker finally gave up the ghost. It has been in constant use for the past four years. So without further ado, I took my one-month-old kettle up to the accommodation. 

That meant that I now needed ANOTHER kettle for home use. I popped into our hardware store where a friend and goal weight member in my Weigh-Less group, is the owner. Harold spotted me in the aisle; I told him I wanted a decent kettle and he pointed to one by Salton. I blanched slightly at the price. However it was either that or the cheaper plastic jug kettles, which I did not want, so I put it in my basket. 

At the same time I managed to convince Harold to be a guest speaker at an open Weigh-Less meeting later this month (there will be a post about this!) 

Back home I half-filled the new kettle with water and plugged it in. 

It starts off with a blue light

As it warms a little, the light turns purple

Much hotter now, it shows a pink light

Strangely, it becomes almost transparent just before it boils

And bright red as it boils!

 Good morning dear Blogger friends. Last week I posted about the changing seasons and different autumn shade of the trees in the Valley. It was a grey, overcast day, which made the trees looks even more vibrant.

 I started my Wednesday Wonderings/ Wednesday Themes labels after seeing numerous tarred road or railway tracks drawing the eye to the subject in the distance. These images show up regularly in dear Blogger friend, Gaelyn of Geogypsy. Do visit her blog for amazing photos and stories of her travels and her job as a ranger in the Grand Canyon. 

During the winter in the Central Drakensberg, I am spoiled for choice on what to photograph. Last week as Thandi and I went up to The Bunker to clean after - and prep before - guests, I stopped to take photos of the beautiful peaks, wearing a cloudy collar and boasting the most beautiful blue sky in the world!

 Good morning dear Blogger friends. Last week as I got out of my car, which I had parked in the car port, I noticed an interesting shadow. The sawn off tree next to my parking was throwing a shadow across the muddy driveway. This same tree - an alien, jacaranda -  has far reaching roots which causes a bulge in my bedroom carpet. While my dearest Shadow was still with me, he used to rush into the room (from outside!) and sharpen his claws on this carpet covered root.

Muddy tracks and reflections

Good morning dear Blogger friends. As you may have heard in the news, the Kwa-Zulu Natal East Coast and surrounds,  has been hit by floods causing loss of life, livelihoods and possessions. 

Our farm road is kept in pristine condition by Farmer John to enable the milk truck to enter and leave without becoming bogged down. Over the years I have learnt to negotiate the muddy road with aplomb.

Returning from my Weigh-Less group last Tuesday (one of the only two sunny days that week) and noticed reflections in several puddles in the road. I stopped and took photos

When I downloaded the images I saw that not only were there reflections but that the tracks were interesting too. 

Well, I think so!

Bovine reflections

 Driving off the farm last week, I stopped to watch the "dry herd" of cows in the paddock next to the road. Thinking about Gaelyn, who has reminded me that "light" is of paramount importance for a photo, I snapped away at two cows and their reflections in the dam.

Shimmering reflections

On Sunday afternoon,  as I walked out onto the veranda, I noticed a beautiful reflection on the surface of Skabby's plodging bowl. I came indoors, grabbed my camera and went outside again. Then it was a challenge to catch the same reflection. I had to stand at certain point to capture the image of the Tecamaria shrub in flower across the lawn and which was being reflected in the water.

 There was also a slight breeze which caused a ripple.
