Water to reflect

Skabenga everlastingly sniffing at things; Eddie pointing beautifully; the water reflecting the trees behind them

Since our summer season began in October, we've had absolutely no water to reflect anything - until recently. Now I'm having great fun photographing reflections.

Ships Ahoy!

This is a reflection of a model junk in a glass case.
With the lights that Grant inserted against the back,
there is a perfect replica of the original
In the photo above you can see the original ship on the right
The junk in the glass case, taken from the front

Rina's late husband, Dick built this junk over a period of five years. He preserved it in this glass case and when Rina moved into our home, she brought it with her. Recently Grant did a few minor repairs, added cosmetic lights and it's now displayed on a glass shelf in our entertainment area.

Blue skies reflected

Last week we found a mirror at a second hand furniture shop. We'd been looking for one for a while. Grant wanted to attach it to the inside of MIL Pam's cupboards in the unit. We bought the mirror for a song, loaded it into the car and brought it home.

Grant laid it carefully on the patio table. I noticed the beautiful reflection and photographed it!

Reflected photographer

This man saw me focus on the group he was standing in and donned his sunglasses. I zoomed in on his face and got this reflection.

Reflective friends...

Everyone is back on camp after the Christmas holidays;  and on Thursday morning, we ladies of Mwadui got together at Tilla's home. At the time we were discussing a rather somber topic over cups of strong coffee and imported chocolates, we soon cheered up and had loads of fun.

When I downloaded the photos, I realized that the coffee cups and mug; the sweets in the cut-glass bowl;  the pink Smartphone, Louise' wrist watch and collar; Amanda's Tab,  sunglasses and  her left sleeve,  were all reflected in Tilla's highly-polished table top. The window and curtains behind me are also reflected in the glass cupboard door behind Louise' head.
Friends' get-together: Louise, Debbie, Tilla, moi and Amanda

Ginger's improved mood!

I thought I'd give a clearer explanation of Ambrose' post about the kitty travel cages this morning. (And an update on Ginger's mood!)

When I sent my friend Rina's cats out to South Africa, I had to use two of our cats' travel cages. Recently Grant sourced a wonderful pet requirement company, Petsville, right here (well, 1000kms away, LOL) in Dar es Salaam. When Johan (plant manager) went out on leave a few weeks ago, he took money from me to give to our company driver, Mohamed in Dar. Mohamed then dropped the money off at Petsville and they subsequently shipped out three cages to Mwanza. Grant's agent, Ali  in Mwanza collected the huge box (containing three cat travel cages) at the bus depot. The Area Plant Manager, Farouck, was on his way to visit our site, so Ali placed the box in his vehicle. It arrived safely at my door on Thursday morning!

So you can see; it's quite a [company management] team effort to accommodate the Hedges Kitties.

These cages are merely here for the day when we eventually leave site and return to South Africa, which is hopefully three years hence. I don't need them for anything else as the vet visits the house to administer the cats' annual inoculations.

As for Ginger's mood: earlier this week, he woke up in his spot between my and Grant's pillows on our bed,  and growled at Shadow (this is normal) and Ambrose (this is not normal) as they passed the bed.  Then he spent the next two days sleeping on his dad's towel on the cupboard...

 Just leave me alone!

Okay! (See, my towel is marked with "G". Oh is that dad's name?)

...and sitting on the windowsill in his dad's bathroom. (Alternatively growling at Shadow and Ambrose who dared to walk through the bathroom and the dogs in the garden who dared to walk past this corner of the house)

Then suddenly on Friday morning I saw him chase Ambrose across the diningroom floor and rumble him to the floor. He was playing!

The mood has dissipated.

It must have been a man thing...

And then I managed to capture a very serene old cat in the reflection of my water glass

Ubiquitous seawater collecting

On our February holiday in South Africa and on the Kwa-Zulu Natal coast, I photographed Grant collecting seawater in a large container. We always do this for our Marquard house-lady, Emily who has never seen the sea and always requests that we bring back seawater for her. People drink this seawater for many reasons and to read more about it, please click on my post here. (Be sure to check the link within this post)

We'd already packed the car, locked up our chalet and dropped the key at the Parks Board reception when Grant walked down to the sea's edge to collect the ubiquitous seawater! As he reminds me every time he does this job, it's not an easy one. But as I watch from higher up on the beach, it looks quite simple; and of course I take photos!
The first couple of scoops half-fills the container with seawater

A couple of deeper scoops digs into the sand (this is very important!) adds roughage topped with  more water to fill the five-liter container
Finally Grant walks back up the beach with Emily's seawater. I love the way the container reflects in the waves on the shore

Man and Machine

While we were out in the bush, the plant maintenance manager, Johan stopped alongside for a chat. His sunglasses reflected Grant and the vehicle!
