Last week Grant called me to photograph a grasshopper on the paving.
A handsome fellow ...
...who obliged me by showing off the detail on his legs
And when I stood over it for a clearer view, I saw the other hind leg was missing
This handicap didn't deter it when hopping off into the grass next to the paving
Yesterday while Rina and I sat on the patio, we watched a Common Fiscal on a camel thorn tree. As I focused on it, we saw it was eating a meal which it had hooked onto a thorn as these birds are wont to do.
When I downloaded this photo, we all tried to identify this bird's meal. The conclusion we arrived at was that it was a baby mouse
I'm linking my post to Saturday Critters with Eileen here
Happy Saturday to you all!
Hello Jo, amazing detail on the grasshopper. Love the closeups! the Common Fiscal is a beautiful bird. What a sight to see it while eating its meal. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the grasshopper. I'm always amazed by the detailed markings in a close-up.
ReplyDeletethat grasshopper is really quite beautiful with all that detail he has.. pretty little bird to... maybe a kitty got that hind leg that is missing
ReplyDeletebeautiful bird! we get too many hoppers here in summer and fall, eating up everything green. :)
ReplyDeleteHello there Mr. Grasshopper, you are looking great!
ReplyDeleteTwo eat additions for this meme Jo. Icanot believe you are cold!!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of that grasshopper! It's interesting to learn how animals use their natural environment (the bird using the thorn, etc) Have a wonder-filled week!
ReplyDeleteGreat critter pics for the day, Jo! I love the detail you've captured! Hope your weekend is going well!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHi Jo! Beautiful photos, but I absolutely HATE grasshoppers! They give me the creeps! It goes back to a childhood incident when thousands of them jumped all over me! (I may have exaggerated a bit on the quantity, but as a 4 or 5 year old....what can I say?!)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots. That grasshopper is a fine specimen.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! Great close-up shots of the grasshopper!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that the meal was not the grasshopper!
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne (airport)
I guess someone tried to eat Mr. Grasshopper, too!
