Now, here in the mountains there is only...moi! Yes, I've become the assistant electrician, mechanical assistant, assistant carpenter. Not that I sit idle. With the animals in my care, I have more than enough to do. But if Grant is busy repairing or creating something and he calls, I have to assist.
I suppose it's never to late to learn. I'm learning all about two-stroke engines; negative and positive electrical wires, air cleaner elements and oil filters.
I always remember him telling me in the early years of our marriage: the FIRST thing a mechanical apprentice learns is which is the number ten spanner.
Last week he was busy with some task and called out: "Jo, bring me the number 10 spanner." And guess what? I knew exactly which tool he was waiting for. Not bad for someone who, up until a year ago, didn't know the difference between a star screwdriver and a pair of pliers!
No. 10 spanner!
I'm linking to Our world Tuesday here
Good for you helping out. Especially like the fingernail polish with the spanner.
ReplyDeleteI see every good assistant wears nail polish!!!
ReplyDeleteThis post made me chuckle. You are such a good student and assistantto Grant!
ReplyDeleteI am proud of you, hubby is like yours and also a mechanic and I have to say, I have never assisted him, in fact when he is working on mechanical stuff I hide in the house.. you are living a life of make do and you are what he has to make do with. LOL... I think it is fantastic you are learning all this stuff..
ReplyDeleteHello Jo, you are one of those quick learners. I am sure Grant appreciates your help too. Have a happy day and week ahead!
ReplyDeleteYour life rather sounds like mine! Although I have been Chuck's assistant for 35 years or so. Always good though as I had had a few occasions been able to fix something myself.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day.
Robin
A fast learner and it always good to have a knowledgeable assistant. I'm sure that you two work well together.
