White-browed Robin-chat

While walking from our hotel to the Victoria Falls in June, I heard a familiar bird call: "Take a peek" or "Have a sweet" repeated continuously. The last time I'd heard this bird call, that of Ruppel's Robin-chat, was while living in Kerio Valley in Kenya. As we were on our way to see the Falls, I hoped this bird would still be in the nearby shrubs and still calling when we returned.

It was.

Needless to say, I crept into the bushes camera at the ready. A few minutes later I was rewarded and got my photo!

Once I'd downloaded it onto my computer, I realized that it was not the bird I thought it was. It was the White-browed Robin-chat. The White -browed Robin -chat's call sounds like a repetitive "Figures of eight" and we have them in our garden here in Mwadui. However, it was the fact that the bird above had a call exactly like Ruppel's Robin-chat which is endemic to North East Africa.

I hope you're all having a wonderful week!

  5. You had to crawl in somewhere for a pic like this. I think its much more fun than sitting way over there with a lens as long as your arm.
