I've copied a video from another blog to explain why Africans drink seawater. (here)
While at the beach on Sunday, I watched two Zulu women arrive on the beach and walk towards the sea. They each had two five-liter containers which - yes- they were going to fill with water. The blogger and photographer in me sat quite a long way away from this pair and captured them ...
Five liter water containers (or any other container of that size) is popular for this task
First the ladies approached the waves and watched...
...gauging when they'd be able to scoop water without getting too wet!
Although I was too far away to hear, I could imagine the mirth as they dashed for safer and drier high ground!
The five-liters containers filled with seawater. There has to be a layer of sea sand in the bottom of the bottle!
I'm linking to Our World Tuesday which you can visit here
wonderful shots of a unique custom. i tried to play the video but could only get about a minute and a half on my lame connection.
ReplyDeleteHi Jo, Love the photos of the ladies collecting sea water. I remember when you posted about this last time. I watched the video then without any problem. This time the video kept stopping about every 30 seconds and I would have to restart. Am wondering whether it is on a different site than it was before (maybe last time was on youtube). I do recall it was the same video as the young man explains very well what to do and how to do it and the benefits of it.
ReplyDeleteI watched the video. I havenever heard of peopledrinking sea water. These are great shots of the ladies adn the waves.
ReplyDeleteInteresting too see unique things. I have not heard before that people bring sea water to home!
ReplyDeleteHello Jo, cool series on the Zulu women collecting their water.. have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteIt may have been healthy some 100 years ago, but now with all the oil and dirt which is in the sea .... I think we Europeans would get intoxicated and sick !
ReplyDeleteI learn something new everyday from blogging.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this practise before. The video explains it very clearly but i'm not totally convinced of its benefits! I think I'll leave the drinking of sea water to others.
ReplyDeletethe photos with the women and the waves are totally totally AWESOME. beautiful ... i did watch the video and that is a scary thing to me.
ReplyDeleteback generations ago when they were drinking it, the pollution was not there like it is now. just like the streams of fresh water and springs here are not healthy either. i enjoyed the video to....
I think drinking seawater would be like taking the prep for a colonoscopy. Not fun. But I suppose if you are exposed to parasites that the cleansing would be good occasionally.
ReplyDeleteyou learn something new everyday
ReplyDeletegreat pictures, great story!
ReplyDeleteLove the shot of them dashing back up the beach to avoid the waves.
