Floral and four-footed critters

Hi everyone. I've been away for a few days...

Grant and I loaded the bike and on Tuesday morning rode down the East Coast. We stayed over with Grant's brother, Chilly and sister-in-law, Shelly. Chilly has bought himself a Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster . Grant went down to help him fit forward controls (foot rests) and a few other accouterments.

While the men played around with this toy on the patio, Shelly took me to a bird hide a few minutes ride from her home. There I met the most knowledgeable birder and excellent bird photographer whom I'd only ever seen on e-mails.  (I'll post more about our outing on Wednesday)

The hide overlooks a wide expanse of water dammed there by the SAPPI paper mill nearby. So a wonderful opportunity to photograph water birds, ducks, waders and more.
You have to take my word for it...
...that this is...
 ...an Egyptian Goose!
And this is...

...Yellow-billed Duck!

When we arrived home on Thursday, the Amaryllis I'd posted about last Saturday
was in full bloom
Tah-daah!
Chappie had found a box stacked inside a box and actually managed to squash her large frame into it!
Peekaboo!
She always poses when she sees me !
Madame Casual
AKA The Paw!
Here in my office the first blooms of the Spathiphyllum had opened

I'm linking to Saturday Critters with Eileen here

Here's wishing you all a wonderful Saturday!

  3. Hi Jo, I enjoyed all your photos. The ducks with their rear ends in the air look funny. I seldom see them like this but it looks like you managed to catch a few of them dipping their heads in water. No doubt eating. I love the photos of chappie. She looks like she is enjoying herself and the new blossom on your plant is very beautiful. What a pleasant surprise for you when you returned from travels.xx

  9. It's good to see an authentic Egyptian Goose. I say that because there's a feral population in the UK as well as occasional escapees from wildfowl collections. This means that any that turn up somewhere out of the ordinary are looked upon with suspicion by birders who like truly wild birds for their lists.
