The Southern Red Bishop breeding male has a black forecrown and brown wings and tail (there is a bishop behind the one in my photo which is quite confusing!)
It's a common bird, gregarious and sedentary. Most mornings there are small flocks of males on my lawn or sitting in the Melianthus shrub
And of course, they're not shy around the bird feeder along with the Red-billed Queleas and...
...the Southern Red Bishop females
This bird is commonly parasitized by the Diderick Cuckoo which we hear and see constantly over our garden.
I'm linking to Wild Bird Wednesday here
