Young dove

Last week John the gardener called me to see a baby dove on the rustic trellis guiding our tomato plants. A little later a larger dove flew down onto the trellis as if to guide (or support?) this little bird. 

Very new out of the nest this little bird was still learning to fly

It sat ever so still while I snapped away

The adult bird resting below and supplying moral support

At one point while John and I watched, the young dove flew down onto the ground . I worried that it may not be able to lift off the ground again

Not long and it had flown up onto the trellis and started preening itself
