On Thursday afternoon Sharda and I were invited to a tea at Sue's house. There are only three ladies on camp at the moment but nothing stops us from having a great time together!
Sue set a beautiful table out on the veranda. She had to guard the eats until we arrived because of the monkeys who frequent our gardens and destroy anything to get to visible food. Once Sharda and I were seated, she went to the kitchen to prepare smoothies. I've never had a smoothie - I'm not a milk or milkshake fan at all - but Sue made this one with strawberries, bananas, honey and yoghurt. It was divine!

This monkey and half-a-dozen others never gave up. They stayed close by hoping that we'd leave the table and all the goodies unattended for just a minute! They were greatly disappointed: what we didn't eat, we helped Sue to take back indoors once the tea party was over!
Sue served miniature spinach muffins as well as a savoury loaf filled with vegetables (zucchinni, carrots, onion, garlic, sundried tomatoes etc). She had a homemade hummus and another chillie-cheese dip to eat with these. I did notice Sue's divine lemon slices, dripping with water icing and a date loaf, but I steered clear of those. She had a bowl of fresh strawberries, grapes, passion fruits, melon and pawpaw which was freshly cut and easy to eat. I really enjoyed this bowl which was at my right elbow!
The cherry on the cake, as it were, (ha-ha) was Sue's yummy Banoffi Pie. (You can read about this here) It's a pastry or biscuit- based dessert, followed by toffee (made from condensed milk), blended with banana and topped with cream. DIVINE!
Instead of one large pie, Sue served individual Banoffi Pies in shot glasses. Although the glass looks big in the photo, it genuinely was tot-sized and more than sufficient

I feel so much better after having "High Tea" with you ladies! I loved tea time in Kenya - but you do have to be careful about the monkeys. We had a harrowing experience in the Masai Mara with friends when a large baboon came through an open window, wrapped his arms around one of our tiniest ladies and stole the bread off her plate! Her scream could be heard at the top of Mt. Kili! ☻

ReplyDeleteOh, yum! It all looks and sounds so good, Jo, and I'm glad you tried the smoothie. Made with yogurt and fruit, they are delicious indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe monkey is so cute, I'm not sure I could resist, but, for the sake of you and your friends who are plagued by them, I would have to refrain from feeding them.
Now, before Lindy and I go to watch TV (she seems to like the Home and Garden channel) I must look up that pie to see what I'm missing.

Nice tea party. The table setting look almost too pretty to disturb but would be most tempting.

What a perfect setting for a teatime feast under glorious African skies. I would have loved to have been an invited guest, too! I would not have had your self-restraint though, Jo and most definitely would have enjoyed a taste of each of the sweet delights Sue had set out so beautifully. I guess that's why you look like you do and why I look like I do :)

ReplyDeleteThe idea of watching monkeys in the trees enchants me - but then, I'm here in Indiana where they can't be a bother.
Now that's what I like to see. Girls getting together and really celebrating a lunch that is a veritable feast for all the senses, including the monkeys. You guys really know how to live!
