A pair of Yellow-billed Duck
Beautiful serene scene
The Yellow-billed Duck has overall darkish plumage; with the bright yellow bill and the green speculum distinctive. It's a common resident and in pairs or flocks from a few birds to hundreds. Here in Marquard I've only ever seen this pair on the dam. In Tanzania we saw dozens, if not hundreds of these beauties. Their habitat is mostly open still water bodies. Their food is mostly plant matter with to a lesser degree animal matter such as insect larvae and snails.

ReplyDeleteI had to look that one up Jo. I thought it looked so much like a Mallard but Wiki tells me its a member of the teal family.
