Yellow-billed Duck

The weather is cooling down quickly and my early morning walks with the dogs will soon have to be moved to 11am instead. Meanwhile Skabenga, Eddie and I are making the most of the mild weather and of course, I'm taking photos.
A pair of Yellow-billed Duck

Beautiful serene scene

The Yellow-billed Duck has overall darkish plumage; with the bright yellow bill and the green speculum distinctive. It's a common resident and in pairs or flocks from a few birds to hundreds. Here in Marquard I've only ever seen this pair on the dam. In Tanzania we saw dozens, if not hundreds of these beauties. Their habitat is mostly open still water bodies. Their food is mostly plant matter with to a lesser degree animal matter such as insect larvae and snails.

I'm linking to Wild Bird Wednesday here
