Kenya's National Bird

The Lilac-breasted Roller occurs in almost all national parks and reserves in Kenya and in some areas is a common roadside bird.The lilac throat and breast and elongated outer tail feathers are distinctive. It perches on large, open branches, large termit mounds and even telephone and power lines swooping down on its prey and clearly showing its brilliant blue wings. This bird occurs in thornbush, savannahs and open woodland. I photographed this particular bird in a copse of trees alongside a sports fields near Fluorspar Primary School in the valley
