Good fences good kitties

I'm linking today's post to TexWisGirl's Good Fences, Thursday. I hope you don't mind, Theresa. The "fences" in these images are not technically fences around a property but railings around an upper walkway inside a hotel.

Two weeks ago after Grant had adental appointment in Mwanza ; afterwards we had lunch at our favorite hotel, Malaika Beach Resort, on the shores of Lake Victoria . While I was eating, I looked up towards the kitchens (one marked "Vegetarians" - and the other "Non-Vegetarians") and saw a hotel cat standing up against a blank wall. I got up and looked a little closer; about four foot up in an obviously wooden wall, was a flap - slightly ajar. The cat leaped up and disappeared through the wall.

Wow, magic or what.

Going...

... going...
...gone!  (note second cat below)
Kitty number two leaps up and into the flap - going...
...going...
...gone!

Not sure whether I was permitted up onto the top level, I nevertheless climbed the steps to see where these cats had disappeared to. I peeked into the flap opening and this is what I saw!
A mama cat and at least six kittens!

As you can see this was a store room of sorts and this clever kitty knew where it was safe to have and raise her kittens. We're thinking that the other adult cat is the father and dashed off underneath the chairs when I poked my head inside the flap. Several kittens also ran for shelter!
And no, it wasn't possible to get my head, arm and the camera at the end of it, inside the flap, so I took the photos without focusing. Quite good huh?

Happy Thursday to you all!

  10. Hello There, I enjoyed your post today. Those kitties seem to have a nice, safe place there.. Wonder if the Resort knows about the little family?

Sorry I haven’t been around much lately. I do try to read blogs—but just haven’t commented very much lately like I usually try to do. Please don’t give up on me. Hopefully my life will be back to ‘normal’— whatever that is (ha), sometime in January.

I did get a cortisone shot in my knee —which has helped with the pain somewhat. In January, I will most likely have meniscus tear surgery…. BUT—in the meantime, I plan to have a fantastic Christmas —and hopefully get to see my kids/grands… God is Good.

    Hugs,
    Betsy
