Good fences, good walk

On one of our daily walks around town recently, I took photos of the houses and of course, the fences.
We admired this guard dog behind the green palisade

A neat fence and pillars surrounding a neat garden and home...
... close up

A concrete fence
Fence with sandstone pillars in between
A crisp grey palisade fence
A low brick wall surrounding the brick house
The white palisade fence surrounds the house which Angus and Amanda owned until they moved in next door to us
The concrete wall panels enclose the AFM (Apostolic Faith Mission) church
This razor wire encloses the local school hostel
The Dutch Reformed Church boarding hostel
Established in 1931
My  friend (who's husband's flights featured in a recent post) owns the beautiful home behind this neat white palisade fence
Another good friend (and DIL Amanda's paternal aunt) lives behind this neat grey palisade and neat brick pillars
Having retired from their farm outside Marquard, they brought a windmill with them
A chocolate brown fence surrounds this large property which once belonged to a dear friend of mine. She was the town librarian until her mid-eighties. She's now in the frail care section of the old age home where Pam lives

Thanks for joining me on this walk around town. I'm linking my post to Good Fences Thursday here

Happy Thursday to you all!

  1. Terrific fences/photos and what a great variety!! Hope you're settling in comfortably in your new place!! Have a great weekend, Jo!!

  2. Quite a variety of fences around your town houses.

  3. Hello Jo, wonderful collection of fences.. I love the windmill too. Thanks for taking me along on your walk. Have a happy day!

  4. i love the concrete fence and the one that is sandstone and wood best of all these. the razor wire is scary to me.. but i bet it works well.
so many different types of fence. in one place. ours all tend to be the same 3 or 4 types

  5. some nice variety in fence styles and materials. the palisades type seems post popular. i liked the concrete one a lot as well as the mix of wood and concrete pillars. thanks, jo!

  6. Quite an array of great-looking fences. The razor wire seems pretty extreme - makes you wonder why it's needed.

  7. First I like that guard dog, he probably was eager to see what you were up to out there. Your photos are just perfect with such an array of every kind of fence imaginable!

  8. Wow so many different fences and styles. I really liked the Concrete fence, that is very different looking. - Why on earth would you need zazor wire at a school?

  9. Wow, so many types of fences in such a small area. Have a wonderful weekend!

  10. Looks like a very nice neighborhood. I do remember lots of people having fences in SA and they are so diverse.

  11. Wow! This was something. Lots of different shares and lots of cool styles. I like each one and am glad I was able to stop here tonight. Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing.
