African Pied Wagtail

The African Pied Wagtail is a distinctive black and white bird with a long tail. We often see two or three at the river below the office, although they are also common in the camp and in our gardens. On Sunday we stopped on the bridge to watch the bird above and it rendered a lovely clear trilling song as a reward

Note: I've been approached by Pick n Pay, a large supermarket chainstore in South Africa, to write an article on international pet travel for their in-house magazine Travel Ideas. As soon as I've submitted the article, I will post about Shadow's recent travels from Johannesburg to Nairobi and finally to the valley. Till then, bless you all!

  1. Hi Jo, I published a blog when you were traveling which I think you would enjoy reading. It's a very personal one for me --but I felt 'called' to write it. It was May 24 --and the title is The Truth about Forgiveness. Read it if you have time...

Love your African Pied Wagtail. Beautiful bird. Thanks for sharing.

Congrats on being chosen to write the article. You definitely have the experience to do it!!!!

  2. That's great about the article, Jo. Am sending you an e-mail.

  3. Nice photo, good luck in your article and have a nice day to you

  4. A striking bird.

Congrats on your writing offer. I remember shopping at Pick n Pay.

  5. Better for the birds not to be in your camp with Shadow and Ginger around ! Good luck with your article !!

  6. Our wagtails have a lovely song too but they don't look as big as those beauties. Well done on getting an article to write. Good luck with it. Those avocados look delicious and they are so expensive here. $2.50 AD each.

  7. Beautiful bird, Jo! Congrats on the writing offer. Have a great week!

  8. How long are you in Kenya for?

I have a new friend from Kenya. She works in a women's refuge centre. I got to know her when I refered a woman there.

  9. Beautiful, we only have a grey and white wigtail here. Have a nice day!

  10. The wagtail is a pretty bird! Nice photo.
Congrats on being asked to write the article. That must be very satisfying.

  11. Our Willie Wagtails are black and white too with long wobbly tails. It actually is the largest of our Fantails but so hard to get a good shot of.

    You did well with yours.

  12. I have such a soft spot for the little brown wagtails we get down our way. Their pied Northern cousin is quite a striking looking little bird. I'd never have guessed it was a wagtail.

  13. Wonderful shots of the pretty African Pied Wagtail---what a cute name!

How exciting for you to be asked tow write an article about traveling with pets! You could use some of the posts you've written about travel with your cats.

Have a wonderful week and I hope Grant is back to good health again by now.

Thank you for visiting my blog and taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate your feedback. Jo
