Community Living

The sociable weavers' nest is a huge structure built on telephone poles, electricity pylons and trees in the area. I took this photo in the Northern Cape on our recent bike ride through Namibia and Botswana

  1. Wow, those are amazing engineering feats, to keep those huge nests on a pole.
    Interesting photo!

  2. Those nests look Huge. It's like tree houses. Beautiful blue sky.

  3. Sociable weaver,
come build me a nest, a place
    to lie down and rest.

    My Sky

  4. Wow, that really is impressive!

  5. Those are the biggest bird's nests I've ever seen...amazing! It looks like the pole is leaning with the weight of the nests.

I won't be commenting for most of December as we'll be out of town in a location without internet access. But I'll come home with lots of photos!

  6. Janie, it is quite impressive, not so. However, many times you see nests which have collapsed and been abandoned lying on the ground.

Hi Gaelyn;) yes, I liked the idea of the nests against vast the Kalahari sky!

Welcome to my blog, Magica Mystical Teacher.

Hi Esther, good to see you!

Hi Pat, you go and have a WONDERFUL Internet/blogfree holiday. Look forward to the photos!

  7. Jeepers...and I thought I was tired. Imagine how pooped it must be to make this nest.

  8. Nice perspective! At first I thought it was a tree, but they were nests. Very interesting photo.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

  10. What would build a nest like that? Cool photo and a nice sky. Happy Skywatching.

  11. Hi Alexander;) I went back to my post, and yes, it does look like a tree! Thanks for your comment.

Hi Sandy;) good to see you again. I agree, they know how to live!

Hi Joyce;) they seem tireless when you watch them building. And so cheerful. It really is an interesting bird!
