Spiritual Rain

The first of the summer rains! So welcome after a very dry spell

After the rain my elderly dog, Megan pranced around in the wet grass.

Often we tend to become despondent when summer arrives and weeks go by with no sign of rain. As part of a farming community, though not a farmer myself, but an avid gardener, I feel the effects of drought along with everyone else in the area. However, I always hold onto God’s promise in Hebrews 13:5 “I will never fail you, I will never forsake you.”

Yesterday afternoon the first of the summer rains fell; a few millimetres only but oh, so refreshing and so welcome.

Once the short downpour had stopped, I walked outside drinking in the scent of a newly-washed earth; delighting in the fresh feel of the air. Immediately of Psalm 92: 1-5a came to mind:

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High
It is good to proclaim Your unfailing love in the morning
Your faithfulness in the evening
Accompanied by the harp and the lute
And the harmony of the lyre
You thrill me with all you’ve done for me!
I sing for joy because of what you have done
Oh Lord, what great miracles you do!

  1. So true all you have said here, Jo. I'm glad that you got some rain (if only a little) & that Megan enjoyed it, too. (P.S. I love the photo's of your garden in that light.)

  2. Even though we may gasp in the "heat/drought" of life, we can always trust God to bring refreshing showers of blessings. Oh, Megan pranced around and rolled in the wet grass - she feels the heat so she welcomed the rain as well. Thanks for the compliment. Hugs Jo xxx

  3. Your garden is so wonderful, peaceful and really inviting for reflection (or prayer) time.
You´re lucky to be so close to nature. Each day I hate more my flat, although I´m thankful that my mother offered it to me.
    Regards. Mizé.

  4. Hi Mize, thank you for visiting my blog. Yes, I am blessed to live close to nature and God. We can experience closeness with God even in a flat, because He lives in our hearts. Do you have house plants? Perhaps if you had a few plants to nurture, you would feel nature indoors. Do you have a balcony? A large plant or a cactus garden could be the answer. (I'm doing a post on container gardening soon) It's lovely to have you here, I feel as if I know you through Lynda's blog. Hugs Jo
