Grey Crowned Crane

Yesterday after market, Sue and I drove to the dam to see what we could find. We weren't disappointed and photographed many birds not least a pair of Grey Crowned Cranes.

The Grey Crowned Crane is a distinctive, long-legged bird with a conspicious golden-yellow tuft on the crown, a bold white cheek patch, a black forehead and red wattles

  2. That's a gorgeous bird. It kind of looks like a very exotic version of the wild turkeys we see roaming around here...thanks for your visit!

  6. These are beautiful captures of the Grey Crowned Crane, Jo. We saw several of these birds at the San Diego Wild Animal Park (new name: San Diego Zoo Safari Park). I like their "crowns!"

  8. An amazing bird, Jo. Beautiful shots.
Horrified about your brother's hail storm, just after he planted his vegetable garden. So sad. We have hail storms here, too.

  9. Love seeing your African birds and am so glad you are feeling better.

I'm back from a harrowing time with my sister, himself had not coped at all and not eaten the food I left for him, had everything in train to have a large infected molar out but the anti-biotics had played havoc with my blood-thinners so it had to be put off to the next time the specialist comes to our clinic.. Everything seems to be standing on it's head at the moment. At least now you know why I haven't been around for a while.
