First mielies!

Over the last few weeks, I've posted photos of the mielie / maize fields growing [furiously] in the lands next door to John and Debbie's property. We watched as the first cobs got tassles. And waited...

Last week, our neighbor stopped his pick-up truck at the fence near the back door. I called Grant to come out and greet him.

He had four fresh mielies in his hands.

I removed the leaves and fed them to the guinea pigs who LOVED them. I placed the maize on the cob in a pot of boiling salted water and cooked them for about 20 minutes.

You add a dollop of butter, sprinkling of salt and chew...

That was lunch!

  1. Yum! I bet it was so nice and tasty.

  2. Curiosas imágenes..un saludo desde Murcia...Feliz año.

  3. we call that corn on the cob. and LOVE it... I love it on the cob and also cut/scraped off the cob and cooked down in a fry pan... it sure is pretty and I love it.

  4. Hello, Jo! I love corn on the cob. I can see why the guinea pigs love it too. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day and weekend!

  5. Nothing better than fresh.
